April 20: Tour of Tiny Greens Organic Farm

USGBC Students will be taking a tour of Tiny Greens Organic Farm on Saturday, April 20th at 1PM. Dustin Kelly from Tiny Greens spoke at our General Meeting on Monday, so join us if you want to find out more about the sustainable activities at the farm! April 27: Tour of Indoor Climate Research Facility

The Indoor Climate Research & Training (ICRT) program is part of the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC). They do a lot of interesting research in indoor air quality and weatherization. Projects Meeting on Thursday, Feb 14th

The first USGBC Projects Committee meeting for the 2013 year will be this Thursday, February 14th, at 7 pm. The meeting will be in 112 Engineering Hall, and this will be the room every week. We will start working on the EOH Lego activity and LEED informational boards.

Come to our first General Meeting of the semester next Monday, Feb 11th at 6:30 in 1002 Lincoln Hall! We will be hosting the meeting along with Solar Decathlon and Students for Environmental Concerns. USGBC will give an “Introduction to LEED”, Solar Decathlon will present “Designing the Household of the Future”, and SECS will talk about “The Many Faces of SECS”.

EXECUTIVE BOARD ELECTIONS | APPLICATION DUE DEC. 3RD

USGBC will hold elections for its 2013 executive board on Wednesday, December 5th at 6 PM in 2311 Newmark. Any USGBC Students member can apply! Before attending elections, candidates MUST fill out this application by Monday Dec 3rd at 7pm. Candidates must also give a 2 minute speech at elections.

There will be an election social this Friday, November 30th at 5pm at Murphy’s to meet the current executive board and discuss different positions. If you plan on running for a position, try to attend!

Greenbuild 2012 was absolutely amazing! Ten members of our USGBC Students chapter proudly represented us at this international conference: attending educational sessions, meeting with companies, and touring green buildings in the San Francisco area.

USGBC Students would like to sincerely thank all those who helped make the Jefferson Middle School Science Fair and the Greenbuild Bus Tour such a huge success!! The Jefferson Middle School Science Fair had an amazing turnout from the school and community. We even managed to generate local media interest!

The Greenbuild Bus Tour was recognized during the Greenbuild Opening Plenaryas a fantastic example of students taking an initiative in educating students. A special thanks to those who volunteered and those who helped publicize these amazing projects. We truly could not have done it without you!

FOLLOW THE BUS TO GREENBUILD!

Coinciding with our Green Science Fair at Jefferson Middle School, the Center for Green Schools Greenbuild Bus Tour will be arriving at University of Illinois!

Follow USGBC Students Co-Vice Presidents Mike Wong and Matt McClone, as well as the rest of the Bus Tour, as they roadtrip across the United States on their way to Greenbuild in San Francisco! The Bus Tour will be making stops at Universities along the way to perform service projects with local K-12 schools!

GREEN SCIENCE FAIR AT JEFFERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL THIS WEDNESDAY!

USGBC Students UIUC is hosting a Green Science Fair at Jefferson Middle School this Wednesday, November 7th as a part of the Center for Green Schools Greenbuild Bus Tour! Jefferson Middle School, located in Champaign twenty minutes off campus, is a leader in the community already taking steps to become a more sustainable school, including installing its own geothermal heating system! USGBC Students hopes to further JMS’s efforts at becoming a more sustainable and healthy school!

The “green” science fair will center on the LEED category Energy and Atmosphere, with interactive booths educating students on climate change, the various forms of renewable energy, and green building! Students will get to see demonstrations of energy efficient bulbs, try the bike-powered blender, and make their own “green” pledges among many other things!
